Act 4

Posted by msjjohnson on April 29, 2008

Yes, we are moving fast with these discussion questions.  Since we had extentsive class discussion about Act 3 in class, I will not prolong that discussion on this site. I have included questions for the remaining of Act4. Therefore, depending on whenever you post, there should be a revelent question for you to answer. Keep in mind that this is an assignment grade (100) and late post (after the deadline) will only recieve a reduced score.  Remember that all comments should be original and insightful. It is obvious to all if you are copying another’s comments.

  1.  Write a character sketch of Juliet emphasizing the internal conflict she is experiencing in this act.
  2. How has the Friar’s hobby contributed to the plot of the play?
  3.  Discuss the four fears Juliet experiences just before she drinks the sleeping potion.
  4.  Describe the reactions of Lord Capulet, Lady Capulet, the Nurse, and Friar Laurence to the death of Juliet.
  5. 2. Define dramatic irony and give examples from this act.

Since I was late posting :( the deadline for this post will be Monday May 5th at 11:59 p.m.

Act 2 Scenes 1-2

Posted by msjjohnson on April 20, 2008

I don’t know if anyone realizes this, but I am thrilled that the majority of our class is being actively involved in this assignment.  We did an outstanding job at articulating our own thoughts this week as well as commenting on others posts. Thanks, that makes this more interesting to read. Ok, we will begin reading Act 2 this week. We need to hurry up and finish this play because we do have other novels to read. So, with that said, here are a few questions to answer- Yes, Leecia, extra credit will be given if you write on more than just one.

1. Explain how imagery and figures of speech make Scene 2 one of the most beautiful scenes in the play. Describe the imagery and figures of speech and illustrate how they are used.

2. Explain the purpose of Scenes 1 and 2.

3. Discuss Juliet’s concerns in the balcony scene.

Act 1 Scene 3-5

Posted by msjjohnson on April 14, 2008

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a bit different than our first blog post. I am going to give an option of responding to one of three discussion prompts. I think this will eliminate everyone from commenting on the same exact post; it will give a little life to our discussions. Again, you do not have to comment on all three topics; however, I would like to see more people commenting on others comments. Take the time to read what your peers wrote and then comment. This is a form of discussion. This must be done by Sunday by 11:59 p.m. (yeah, I know, I have to get the time stamp together. I am working on it!)

Remember, you only have to respond to one and it has to be at least 100 words long. Include text support, be inventive, and attempt to comment on peer’s comments. For those of you that are dying to write on more than just one prompt, go for it. A small extra credit incentive may be available.
1. Compare the love that Romeo feels for Juliet to the love that he felt for Rosaline.

2. Explain the imagery of light and dark in Act I and how it is used as symbols for Rosaline and Juliet.

3. How does Shakespeare use humor in Act I?

Posted by msjjohnson on April 7, 2008

Ok class, this is the beginning of our blog experience!   Respond to the below prompt. Use the text as well as your great minds to come with insightful responses. Feel free to feed off of peers comments on the same post.  A minimum word count of 100 is required! All comments must be posted by Sunday April 13, 2008 by 11:59 p.m.

Explain the operation of fate and how it has worked in the play to help bring the two lovers together.

Welcome Honor English I!

Posted by msjjohnson on March 12, 2008

This is a new experience for our class. I’ve decided to try something new with homework and class discussions.  I will give everyone a handout about rules and expectations for blogging on this site to have handy at all times; however, I will list them here as well:

  • No profanity
  • Insults are not allowed
  • Formal language is expected
  • Respond to blogs by deadline

If I think of anything else, I will make it a point to let you know. Of course, your feedback is needed as welll.

Enjoy and have fun with this new experience!
